US Airforce veteran Dr. J. Curtis Abell, MD, a native of Yanceyville, NC, graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and a Doctorate in Medicine. He carried out his pediatric medicine residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY before marrying his wife Pat and moving to Statesville, NC to set up his practice of 41 years. Dr. Abell's arts related not-for-profit experience has included service on the board of the Iredell Museum of Arts, and the Advisory Board of The Festival of Music, an organization that provided scholarships of $1000 to all Iredell Co. students pursuing performance or teaching degrees in music. He also sits on the Board of Directors of Historic Vance House and has lectured informally on the subject of classical composers and their works. Since becoming smitten with Il Trovatore en route to the beach many years ago, he has continued to expand his love affair with opera.
