Materials Required
There will be no live auditions. Casting decisions will be based upon materials submitted online via the YAP Tracker Application form.
- Recording of two arias in contrasting styles, one must be in Italian (Puccini preferred), with piano or orchestral accompaniment. Must be made within 12 months of YAP Tracker application deadline.

Program Information
Opera Experience Southeast focuses on solid resume-building performing experience for all our program participants, and offers everyone the opportunity to perform at least one complete operatic role in one or more fully-staged public performances in the Rock Hill, SC and Charlotte, NC area. In addition to assigned operatic roles, artists may be required to participate in concerts and other special performance events.
We will choose approximately 14 singers to participate in an intensive, 2-week Performance and Professional Development Program, during which rehearsals will be interspersed with individual coaching sessions, master classes and career development/mentoring with OES Company and Guest Experts.
Artists are strongly encouraged to bring repertoire with them that they would like to re-work and prepare for auditions going forward.
Compensation
- Payment is not provided; however, free housing will be provided to all participants.
- Coaching, voice lessons and career mentoring will be provided, free of charge, to all participants. We recommend you bring audition repertoire with you that you would like to work on for auditions going forward.
2017 OES Company and Guest Experts
Mia Elezovic, International Vocal Coach and Accompanist
Ms Elezovic has performed in concerts internationally, giving solo recitals as well as chamber music concerts in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czeck Republic, Germany, Italy, Japan, Slovenia, Spain and the United States. She has also appeared as a soloist with the Croatian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Zagreb Philarmonic Orchestra and the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the Croatian Chamber Orchestra, String Orchestra "Gaudeamus" under conductors MO Kazushi Ono, Pavle Despalj, Ralphe Pascal, Petar Skerjanec and Zlatan Srzic. She has appeared with notable success on radio and television in Croatia and Germany. She participates regularly in various festivals including Hamamatsu Music Academy, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Holland Music Session, the International Keyboard Festival, New York, Meranofest and the Las Vegas Music Festival. In 2008 she became part of the accompanying department at the Manhattan School of Music, The Bergen Academy of Music and the ALPHA School of Music. In Fall 2010 Ms Elezovic joined the faculty at the Royal Conservatory of Liege Belgium. In the Summer of 2012, she joined the Austrian American Mozart Academy (FAVA).
Sandra Moon, International Soprano
American soprano Sandra Moon made her professional operatic debut in the role of Frasquita in Jean-Pierre's staging of Carmen with Placido Domingo at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Her first European engagement was at the Stadttheater in Aachen where she sang such roles as Sophie in Rosenkavalier, Pamina, Susanna, Oscar and Norina. From 1992 to 1997 Sandra was engaged at the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe where her repertoire was extended to such roles as Mimi, Liu, Manon, Donna Anna, Adina, Fiordiligi and Maria Stuarda. At Munich's Gartnerplatz Theater, where Sandra was engaged from 1997 to 2012, some of her roles included Violetta, Mimi, Butterfly, Giovanna d'arco, Alice Ford, Martha and Agathe in Freischutz. An extensive repertoire of over 100 roles has lead her to other cities such as Dusseldorf, Cologne, Dresden, Linz, Munich, Bonn, Leipzig, Paris, Warsaw, Mallorca and Vienna. Ms Moon made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1997 in the role of Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos with James levine conducting. She has since sung at the Met in roles such as Cleopatra in Handel's Giulio Cesare, Flower Maiden in Parsifal, and Zdenka next to Renee Fleming's Arabella. In 2005 she made her Carnegie Hall debut in the role of Annchen in Der Freischutz under the baton of Eve Queler and the Opera Orchestra of New York. She has sung with the New York City Opera (Pamina in Magic Flute and Rose in Street Scene), Glimmerglass Opera (Marzelline in Fidelio), Protland Opera (Lucia in Cucia di Lammermoor), Florentine Opera (Musetta and Antonia), Opera Columbus (Musetta, Countess and Donna Anna), cleveland Opera (Cleopatra and Gilda), and Adina and Nedda at the Lake George Opera Festival.
Paul Chandley, Conductor and Coach Accompanist
Paul Chandley graduated with a degree in piano performance from the University of North Carolina and Master's and Doctoral degrees in performance from the University of Missouri and Kansas City Conservatory of Music. He is an experienced recitalist and the winner of a number of piano competitions including the International Beethoven Piano Sonata Competition and the Czerny Foundation Piano Competition. He has been a coach pianist for singers at the Metropolitan Opera and on Broadway and has appeared with orchestras and opera houses around the world. He has taught at a number of institutions including the Mozart Conservatory in Austria, the Prince Regent Conservatory in Germany, and the New School for Social Research in New York City. Paul is Artistic Director and Conductor of the Central Carolina Symphony and Executive Director of the Trinity Music Academy.
Sophia Pavlenko, Composer and Coach Accompanist
Sophia Pavlenko is a member of the Sophia and Paul Piano Duo. Her musical compositions, including her much acclaimed 1st and 2nd Piano Concertos, are regularly featured by the Kiev Symphony & Chorus and the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra. Her first major sacred work, The Parables, had its premiere at Trinity Music Academy and will be further performed at important venues statewide during 2013 and 2014. Sophia has appeared on PBS television and was recently featured in Our State Magazine for her outstanding contributions to music and performance in North Carolina. Sophia serves as Director of Music at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Southern Pines, NC and is a standing judge for the North Carolina Piano Concerto Competition.
John Fowler, OES Co-Founder and Executive Director
John Fowler enjoyed a 30-year career as a leading international operatic tenor, performing title roles at the world's premier opera houses, including New York's Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Canadian Opera, Toronto, Houston Grand Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Opéra de Montreal, Wiener Staatsoper, Wien, Austria, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Germany, Opern- haus Zürich, Switzerland, Opéra de Nice, France, Théâtre du Châtelet Paris, France, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Hamburg, Germany, Frankfurter Oper, Frankfurt, Germany, Oper Köln, Köln, Germany, Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Liège, Belgium, Gran Teatre de Liceu, Barcelona, Spain, Teatro Real, Madrid, Spain and Opera Nacional de Sao Carlos Lisbon, Portugal. Extensive concert appearances have included appearances La Scala's Sal Verdi, Milan, Italy, and Carnegie Hall, New York. Mr. Fowler was awarded an Emmy for his portrayal of Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème with New York City Opera broadcast as part of PBS's Live From Lincoln Center television series, a role he has sung over 300 times on major operatic stages worldwide.
Mr. Fowler has served as consultant Artistic Director for the Opera Company of North Carolina and as Artistic Director of the Winthrop Opera Theater.
Mr. Fowler is currently a member of the Voice faculty at the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University and maintains private studios in Rock Hill, SC and online. Most recently students of his have won Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and been awarded prizes at The Gerda Lissner International Vocal Competition, The Nico Castel International Vocal Competition, The Hefner Williams Vocal Competition, The Leontyne Price International Vocal Competition and the Charles A. Lynam Vocal Competition. Others hold or have held positions at Young Artist Programs such as Washington Opera's Domingo-Cafritz Program, Merola San Francisco, Cincinnati Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Brevard Music Center, Central City Opera, Opera Carolina and the Opera Company of North Carolina. Further students of his have performed at the Bayreuther Festpiele, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, Frankfurter Oper and Opéra Royal de Wallonie.
Marie-Claire O'Reirdan, OES Co-Founder and Technical Director
Marie-Claire O'Reirdan performed for 20 years as an opera and concert soloist in the UK and throughout Europe, singing leading soprano roles on major international stages including the Wexford Festival Opera, Wexford, Ireland, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Hamburg, Germany, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorf, Germany, Theater Duisburg, Duisburg, Germany, Niedersächsische Staatstheater, Hannover, Germany, Theater an der Wien, Vienna, Austria, Teatro Regio, Torino, Italy, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Monte Carlo, Monaco, Bolshoi Opera, Moscow, Russia and the Bayreuther Festspiele, Bayreuth, Germany.
